Five courses, ordered by nerve
Girly Pop runs nights at five places between Olathe and Kansas City. They are not equally easy to walk into, and nobody usually says which is which. This page does.
01 / Nobody can see in
A room with bays and a door. There is no course and no queue behind you.
This is where GRIPS runs: three hours of instruction, swing analysis on a screen, and the etiquette rules nobody teaches you. If the thought of a tee box is the whole problem, this is the room that removes it.
02 / You never leave the range
An hour of swings, then an hour in the clubhouse. No holes, no scorecard.
The cheapest way into the club and the one most people start with. Range Night Social is capped at thirty six. The instruction night is capped at twenty four and includes forty five minutes of coaching before the clubhouse part.
03 / Nine holes, with music
Wine & Nine. There is a band at eight, which takes the attention off your swing.
Your first nine holes, arranged so that the golf is not the only thing happening. Tee times run early evening and the live music starts as the last groups come in. Scramble format, so a bad shot disappears into the group.
04 / Range, then the course
Girls Night on the Range. An hour to warm up in public, then tee times.
The regular Monday. Range balls and two drink tickets are included, tee times follow at seven, and it finishes as a nine hole scramble. Some dates add an hour of instruction from two pros, which costs more and is worth it.
05 / Fifty six people at once
A shotgun start. Everybody tees off at the same minute, which is loud and fast and not where to begin.
Scramble Night is the biggest field Girly Pop runs and the most fun once you have done two or three of the others. The club closes at nine. Two drink tickets are in every price, and Oak Ridge members get their own rate.
Small groups, a cap on the numbers, drink tickets in the price, and a scramble format wherever there are holes involved, so no single swing is anybody's problem.
Clubhouse members use the bays at Dick's Sporting Goods House of Sport every Tuesday for nothing. It is the quietest way to get less bad before the next range night.
